Bighorn River Fly Fishing Reports
Bighorn Fishing Report 3/17/2021
The Bighorn River has improved with the mild weather but the crowds have also increased slightly. If you are willing to drive over here, you may get into some really solid fishing. The warmer weather is making these trout hungry and cooperative. Nymphing is still the best method, fish Orange Scuds/Sowbugs, Zebra Midges, San Juan worms, Caddis Larva, and small mayfly imitations. Swinging has been relatively productive with small baitfish patterns like a Wooly Bugger or a leech imitation. There have been some reports of decent Midge dry fishing as well, so keep your eyes out in those slow foamy areas.
The Bighorn has been fishing well this last week. Nymphing has been the best method to catch fish but a few fish have been tricked with midge dries and streamers. Nymphing with sowbugs/scuds and midges have been the most effective. The dry fly action has potential but just needs some relatively calm conditions for fish to start looking up. Streamer fishing has been effective dredging the bottom of big deep holes with darker flies and a sink tip.
