Bighorn River Fly Fishing Reports
Bighorn Fishing Report 9/18/2020
Hatches are pretty quiet right now on the river with Tricos not quite going en masses yet - but they should be showing up soon. They are always later on the Bighorn than we are used to in western Montana. There are caddis and a few Tricos around, so the ardent dry fly angler can find some fish rising here and there.
Nymphing with two sowbug has been the most consistent setup the last week, fished with about a BB in weight in the deeper parts of the runs. Shallow nymphing along seams has been good when wade-fishing, but the sowbug setup has been the way to go. Brown and wine colored San Juan's will find some fish too!

The Bighorn has been fishing well this last week. Nymphing has been the best method to catch fish but a few fish have been tricked with midge dries and streamers. Nymphing with sowbugs/scuds and midges have been the most effective. The dry fly action has potential but just needs some relatively calm conditions for fish to start looking up. Streamer fishing has been effective dredging the bottom of big deep holes with darker flies and a sink tip.
