Sunday Fishing Update

Montana fishing and weather conditions change rapidly in the Spring, and this year is no different. Here is the briefest and most current fishing forecast for Bozeman area rivers.

Fishing freestones this week went from good to great to poor in only a few days time. We expect them to get even worse with a few 80 degree days early in this week's forecast. After the sunny hot days early in the week, the ol' weather predictor says we could see some snow and highs of only 40 by Friday. Brr. Luckily, both the upper and lower Madison Rivers have been hanging on and fishing quite well. Continue reading for some very brief fishing reports for our rivers.

Yellowstone River

Blown out and rising. Possibly fishable next week.

Gallatin River

Kind of fishable now (as seen below) but definitely on the way out. Maybe a come back next week.

Gallatin River 5/16/21

Lower Madison

Good. Busy. Nymphing well. Streamers = OK. Dries are good in Beartrap kinda slow below Warm Springs. Few caddis. Some sallies.

Upper Madison

Slowly rising. Chalky. Streamers = good. Nymphing = good. Dries, eh. Soon hopefully. Might slow with the heat.

Get Outthere folks. Great weather and good fishing. What could possibly go wrong? Bring beer just in case.

Stop by our shop for tippet and leaders. We have plenty as of now, but damn, that stuff is flying off the shelves. Best flies in town too. Stop by our Bozeman fly shop to see for yourself.

Tight lines.
