Bozeman Fly Fishing Schools

Our summer fly-fishing classes are finally starting to "normalize" with the arrival of the season and a better understanding responsible social distancing. Learn to fly fish in Bozeman, Montana this summer or improve your skill in our Bozeman Fly Fishing Schools.

Our Bozeman fly fishing schools are slowly starting to normalize once again, thanks to some nice weather and everyone respecting the various social distancing issues. As we roll headlong into the summer season, we are significantly ramping up our class offerings in July and August with some very exciting changes as well. Our offerings include our free Foundations Class and a comprehensive Western Trout School to help new and novice anglers to get more out of their time on the water.

Starting July 18th, 2020 all of our classes will take place at our Guide & Education center, aptly banded as “Fins & Feathers - Side Channel”. Located at 40 Spanish Peaks Drive (directly north of the Korner Klub on Jackrabbit Lane near the 4-Corners Intersection), we have an indoor classroom setting that is complemented by a large, outdoor casting area. Our Fly Fish Truck will be parked onsite throughout the summer and open most days from 7:30-1:00 pm with river essentials and support for our various classes.

  • The Foundation of Fly-Fishing class is a 1.5-2-hour, free introductory class designed to teach the basics of rigging and casting in a low-pressure and fun atmosphere. Classes are available throughout the summer with limited capacity which varies by the session. You can learn more about these classes or make a reservation online. It is important to note that reservations must be made online – access the reservation portal and learn more about availability here. You can email our Outreach Director with questions about the class, but you will have to make all reservations online – we are not able to make the reservations for you.
  • The Western Trout School program is something that we were really looking forward to back in the Pre-Covid days, but our plans were highjacked back in March. So, we now have a class scheduled for early August and are excited to get this program off the ground! This two-day class is limited to 6 participants and include one, full day of classroom/casting workshop at “Side-Channel’ followed up with a full day of guided fishing. The guided fishing day is a great opportunity to put your skills to the test with the help of a dedicated fly-fishing professional reinforcing all of your newfound skills! Learn more about this class online and register either online or via email directed to our Outreach Director, Teagan Jendro.

In addition to our standard fly-fishing class offering in Bozeman, our fly shop is currently working on specialty classes (Euro-Nymphing, Trout Spey, Streamer etc.), fly-tying classes, and a winter seminar series. We hope to have these courses put together by the end of July, but this is all dependent on COVID cases and social distancing guidelines. Stay tuned to our Blog, Event Schedule, and Social Media for schedules.
