End of the Summer Wine

Well.. fall is here and winter is fast approaching. The fall colors in MT have simply been amazing and the summer fishing was excellent. Just this last couple of weeks, we have noticed the hopper bite has finally tapered off and is all but done. Terrestrial dry fly fishing on the small streams is still hanging in there but look to very small baetis to be the next hatch. This cold weather should bring things on.

The water temps are looking good in all of our local streams and rivers, a smattering of snow on the hills adding to the changing season vista.

We are already seeing an improving streamer bite and at this time of year – My favorites are Sex Dungeons and PEanut Envy's - particularly in whites and yellows . The browns are on the move and it's good to remember at this time of year to watch where we wade – staying off redds and please avoid disturbing spawning fish.

If you are a bird hunter – we’d like to let you know we are carrying a small line of Orvis clothing for the discriminating upland hunter.

Have fun out there and here’s to our fall fishing – some of my favorite fishing of the year.

Cheers

Simon
