Happy Saint Patty's Day
Ahhh, it's March 17th and feeling like Spring here in Bozeman. March - May is the time for green aquatic insects here in Southwest Montana. That means BWO's and Skwalas. So drink a green beer or Irish Car Bomb and make your way to out Bozeman fly shop to purchase a selection of the best green flies in town!
Happy St. Patty's Day! Wear green for good luck and good fishing with the Green Bugs. We have yet to see blue wing olives yet, but with the warm, spring-like weather they can't be far off. A skwala or two has been spotted on our Bozeman area freestone rivers marking the beginning of fishing large dry flies and stonefly hatches. While Skwalas are not as numerous in the Bozeman area as they are in the Bitteroot Valley, fishing flies that imitate these bugs will still trick a trout or two. So without further ado, here are our favorite green flies for fishing BWO and Skwala hatches on our Bozeman rivers. Oh, and a few cold weather streamers for good measure (also green).
