5 New Things for 2018 | Bozeman Fly Shop

The New Year is finally here, the holidays are over and it’s back to the grindstone once again. Honestly though, working in a fly shop that is smack dab in the middle of the best trout fishing around isn’t such a bad thing. Great people, cool gadgets, and never being too far away wild trout water are just a few of the perks that keep me jacked up about being a Bozeman fly fishing guide and fishing every chance I get. After 18 years of living the “fly shop dream,” the product innovations continues to amaze me every year and we have some cool new ones in line for the next few months.

New Orvis Convertible Wader – Available in both men’s and women’s versions, this updated to the Orvis stalwart is the best Orvis wader ever made. New seam construction combines the low profile, comfort, and durability of secure lockstitch seams with strategic reinforcement in high stress areas subject to failure. The nylon outer material has proved itself over the years as being incredibly abrasion resistant and durable. Innovative design features include FLIPLOCK SNAP magnetic fasteners for quick and easy chest to waist-high conversion. Improved neoprene booties, integrated gravel guard and well thought out tab and pocket designs round out these award winning, all around waders. These will be in the shop sometime in February and will retail for just $298

Patagonia’s Middle Fork Wader – These ultra-lightweight waders have been blowing folks out of the water with their innovative designs unlike anything else we have ever seen. The key feature to these waders is that they are lightweight (just a stitch over 1lb). Now Patagonia isn’t going to just add a new lien of waders because they are only lightweight! Durable upper layer construction is made of 3oz. nylon, while the lowers material is a more durable 4oz nylon material. Oh, did I mention that the nylon used in these waders is recycled? And there is just one more thing too! The booties are a seamless rubber like nothing you have ever seen before too! Green, durable, and functional as ever! We will have these in our Bozeman fly shop sometime in February and they will retail for $349.

Sage Foundation – Although the Foundation fly rods hit the racks late last summer, it’s such an innovative product that is worth mentioning once again. American made, tight designs, and the classic fast action feel that only a Sage rod can deliver. These all around fast action rods replace the Sage Approach series at the entry level point for American made fly rods. There has never been a better fly rod for the money in the 18 years that I have been messing around as a fly-fishing professional. What I mean by that statement is that at $325, the new or novice fly angler has never had a more attainable and functional fly rod that will noticeable improve their time on the water. We have these in stock now and have been fishing with them for the last 6 months…they really are an awesome choice for the beginner, novice, or expert angler on a budget.

Ross Evolution LTX & Gunnison Reels – I have been excited about getting these two amazing reels in my hands and on the water since last July. Designs and feels that you will just have to see and touch to truly appreciate are about all I can go on here. Sealed drags, amazing machining, super-hard anodization and that buttery smooth responsiveness we have all come to expect from Ross Reels are just a few of the tangibles with these new reels. American made, of course too. Expect to see these in our fly shop sometime this coming March or April.

These are just a few of the highlights that come to mind as I look to the year ahead in our Bozeman fly shop. Things will start to get cranking away here sooner than we expect as it always does. Keep an eye out for the new stuff and always be sure to ask us what’s new when you visit us in the fly shop. Happy New Year!
