Bozeman Fly Shop “SHOWSTOPPERS”

Things are cranking along right now for Fins & Feathers with new staff, new fly shop (Upstream -located at mile marker 55.5 on HWY 191 in the Gallatin Canyon, the Fly Fish Truck season kicking off and some pretty good fishing to go along with it all.

Cooler nights have stalled out the runoff for a few days, creating some sneaky options in terms of good fly fishing in the Bozeman area right now. Stop in either of our fly shop locations for some great advice and the goods for your next outing.

Speaking of the “goods,” we have been getting in new bugs, new gear, new clothing, and new everything else to go with fly fishing the last few weeks. In all of those boxes, however, we have seen a few, true “showstoppers” that really stick out in 2019.

The SAGE Trout Reel has that traditional reel look and feel to it with all of the bells and whistles of today’s best fly reels. A unique, full-frame construction with concave machining of the spool in a large arbor design will cause even the pickiest fly reel aficionado to stop and do a double-take. Sage’s time-tested Sealed Carbon System drag with One Revolution drag adjustment creates butter smooth feel with serious performance when needed most. Priced at $375 in the standard trout sizes, these reels from our friends at Sage are worth the look.

Patagonia Tropic Comfort and Tropic Comfort Hoodies feature a new fabric package for 2019 that simply blows everything else away in terms of comfort and function on the water. We are ones to really swoon too much over the latest and greatest in the fashion world, but these sun shirts are just too comfortable not to mention. Be sure to try one on and see for yourself the next time you are in the shop.

Simms Flyweight Boots with rubber soles have been my “go-to-choice” so far in 2019. Exceptionally lightweight with Vibram soles and a speed lace hook system makes these easy to step into for all day comfort. The new Mirage LT fly reels from Orvis are now in-stock. These lighter purpose reels are built upon the designs and lessons of the standard Mirage Reel. Available in black or green with a large arbor design, these American Made reels start off at $349 and available at our Bozeman fly shop or online.

UPG LT Mini fly boxes are durable, functional, and developed for anglers on the fly. Made to fit in a vest or pack pocket. Injection-Molded fly sheets hold flies tight, won’t tear like foam, and is available in a wide range of configurations to deliver a box for every situation and any fly.

No list of new from Fins &Feathers wouldn’t be complete without mentioning a new fly rod. The ZONE from Thomas & Thomas has been gaining traction and interest at our Bozeman fly shop. These mid-priced, American Made rods feature the same StratoTherm resin scrim used in the Avannt and Exocett series of premium rods, yet are priced just under $500. American made and well-appointed with premium components, this is a rod series that should be on your list to check out the next time you are in the shop and are also available online.
