Clark Fork Fish Kill
About a week ago heavy rains caused metals from the Butte mining projects to wash into the flood plains. Contaminated water washed into the Clark Fork River and inevetiably resulted in 32 known dead fish. The impacts of this type of incident could be much deeper than what we have seen thus far. Events like this at least raise a flag and should have everyone questioning mining around Montana rivers in the future and what this type of situation means for fly fishing in the years to come. Alex Leon of the Clark Fork Coalition says there is still 35 miles of river that need to be cleaned which could take upward of 20 years.
