Fiberglass is Back

Bozeman Fly Shop with Fiberglass Rod

There is no doubt that graphite is where it’s at if you are looking for fly rods with fast-actions and versatility. However, fiberglass rods have started to gain traction with the more traditional-minded dry fly anglers. Modern glass rods are much lighter than their predecessors, from “back in the day,” yet are very durable and utlra-smooth.

The thing that gets people excited about glass rods today is how smoothly they load through the casting stroke, thus enabling delicate and accurate dry fly presentations. That’s not to say that they aren’t a blast to have in hand when you have a decent sized trout on the end either. Though not for everybody, they are certainly fun to fish with and worth a look at for the small stream/spring creek minded anglers.

We have a few models to choose from here at Fins & Feathers of Bozeman’s fly shop. You’ll find a few models that are even made right here in the USA by Scott and Orvis. We also have a few choices for the more price-sensitive angler in the offshore versions from Reddington. They are all beautiful rods that are sure to make any angler think twice about casting a Trico dry this summer. Prices range from $250-$650 and we have several models in stock if you would like to cast one for yourself or check them out online.
