Flashback to being a kid
Late last night I got a little reminder of what it was like to be a kid. It was about 10:00 pm and I was outside having a smoke and watering my lawn when I noticed a couple of kids hiding in the shadows. At first I thought they were up to no good, then one of the kids came up to me and asked, “Do you mind if we jump the fence and fish the pond?” (I live right next to a pretty cool pond). “We’ve been watching big fish jumping all day and we can’t stand it”, one of the kids stated. My only response was “I understand.” A couple seconds after they jumped the the fence I heard a big splash that could only be explained as a Beaver being raped. Then the frantic call of “Oh Shit!, Oh Shit!, it’s an alligator, it’s 8 feet long.” After a little teasing about making sure they let it go I went back into the house. Around 11:00 they knocked on my door to show me their Trophy Catch. You can tell by the photo I would be a bit of an ass if I wasn’t impressed by their prowess and gumption.
It just gave me a little flashback of when I was a kid and fences or no trespassing signs were just a little obstacle in my quest for a fish. I’m sure they will grow out of the trespassing thing before long, but I hope they never lose that energy and excitement to play a childish prank on a trout or two now and again.
