Last Day of Hunting and the First day of Fishing for 2017
January is always a special time for me. This month more than others always symbolizes the whole “Out with the old and in with the new” for me. This week I was lucky enough to have a couple of days off when the weather was nice. Wednesday I took my favorite hunting partners out for the last duck hunt of 2017. Not that I was able to put any more meat in the freezer but a nice day with a couple of good friends none the less.
On Thursday I made tracks for DePuys Spring Creek. A pleasant day above freezing. A little wind and a few more people than usual this time of year but still a great day to catch the first fish of 2017. The fishing wasn’t as easy as I expected but still landed about ten fish similar to the one in the picture. The trout weren’t super willing to go out of their way to eat my usual fare but didn’t mind putting a San Juan or a Baetis Nymph in their mouth once in a while.
