New Arrivals from Sage, Rio, Redington
New this week at Fins & Feathers’ Bozeman fly shop is an even larger selection of products from Rio, Sage, and Redington. All three of these brands are constantly pushing to bring innovative, quality products to the fly-fishing world and perhaps never better than their 2016 lineups. Here are a few of the highlights that have just reached our store that we think are certainly worth a look for the Holiday Season.
Yankee Jim and I attended the ICAST show in Orlando, way back in July, to take a look at next year’s gear from across the fly fishing industry. One of the Redington products we looked at were a new waist-high wader. I think my initial reaction was something like “oh look, another over-priced excuse for keeping an angler dry and waste of good polyester…” That’s when the sales rep told me that they were retailing for somewhere around $140!
I changed my tune pretty quick after taking a closer look and realizing that this IS exactly the wader so many people have been looking for the last 10 years. The Palix River Pant are the perfect choice for easy wading situations all year long and are less expensive than most waterproof/breathable rain pants!
The Sage Guide Shirt has quickly become one of our favorite warm weather, technical fishing shirts. Cooling technology fabric helps regulate body temperature and keeps you comfortable throughout the year. Incredibly comfortable and well-designed, the SAGE Guide Shirt won the 2015 IFTD Best Men’s Apparel award and is priced at $80.
The Quest Softshell Insulated Hoody is a jacket unlike anything else out there in the fly fishing world today. Featuring Primaloft 120-gram insulation throughout the front and rear torso, it is designed to keep your core warm without adding bulk in the shoulders and arms (which are un-insulated in the jacket). The nylon/spandex outer material stretches throughout your range of motion and features has DWR finish to help repel moisture. Check it out at our Bozeman fly shop or buy it online for $250.
Sage added several new rod families to their lineup of American made, performance fly rods for 2016. Although we have had most of these in the store since this past August, the latest arrivals to Fins & Feathers just help round out the selection of models that we now offer. The new rods include the Bolt (Ultra-Fast), MOD (moderate action), and the Pulse (medium-fast) fly rod families. The Pulse is of particular interest to many of our customers as it is an “all-purpose” rod design and retails for $450. Stop by Fins & Feathers and test cast one of the new rods from Sage or pick one up online.
We have seen a trend from Rio to incorporate their “Connect Core” into as many fly lines as possible over the last tow years. The reasoning is simple, it’s a better core that results in better hook rates and improved sensitivity while both casting and fishing. One of our favorite specialty lines for streamer fishing is the RIO Outbound Short with either a floating running line and intermediate sinking head or the intermediate running line with a fast sinking head. These lines are excellent choices for fishing big, articulated streamers on western rivers.
Powerflex Plus is the strongest leader/tippet material ever made with a tensile strength of 20% more than traditional nylon leaders. This dramatic improvement in strength results from a modification to the nylon copolymer formula. Available in 2-Packs for leaders and 50-yard tippet spools, this new material will quickly become your “Go To” leader choice in 2016.
