New Gear Here at Fins & Feathers of Bozeman
It has been another crazy week here at Fins & Feathers with the new website going live, the Mother’s Day Caddis Hatch on the lower Madison, and boxes after boxes of piles of new gear flooding the store just about everyday! Add to that, we have all been trying to get out of town for some R&R before everything starts going crazy in terms of our Bozeman fly fishing guide service and in the fly shop. We get so busy dealing with the changing water conditions and helping folks figure out where they should fish today, that sometimes we even forget about all the new stuff that is in our Bozeman fly shop for 2016.
5 New Fly Fishing Products in Fins & Feathers for 2016 (No ORDER of Awesomeness)
3-Tand “TF Series” of fly reels are among our newest products this spring. The TF Series is their lightest weight reel and is ideally suited for everything from Trout to Bonefish. The drag system consists of a series of carbon fiber plates in a sealed cartridge for added protection form corrosion and years of maintenance free use. The carbon fiber plates in the drag system are coated with a proprietary Nano resin which results in a truly, silky smooth drag unlike anything else we has seen in in the $200 price range. 3-Tand is based Connecticut with manufacturing overseas in Asia. All 3-Tand reels come with a limited, lifetime warranty against manufacture defects.

We like to think of ourselves as a Fly Shop more so than a “specialty retailer” or “fly fishing outfitter” when it comes to describing our store to folks. We have put a year into redesigning our fly inventory system, bin layout, and overall fly selection. Our fly selection is the highest quality – both standard and specialty patterns – most complete in Bozeman. We go way beyond the typical, and not so typical trout stuff too; amazing patterns for Tarpon, Permit, Bonefish, Snook, Peacock Bass, Golden Dorado, Largemouth Bass, Stripers, Pike, Redfish, plus the expertise to make meaningful recommendations as well!
The new Pivot-Boa wading shoe from Orvis is one of those products that has come along and really, quite frankly, just stunned us with how well it is designed and fits. It just might be the most comfortable wading boot that we have ever worn and is definitely the best fitting one that utilizes the BOA lacing system that we have come across. The sole features a proprietary lug design from Vibram that is super-grippy across a wide range of surfaces. At under $200, they are definitely worth a look for you next pair of wading boots.
The Zero Sweep Bandolier pack from Umpqua just arrived this week and it’s perfect for the minimalist in all of us. A main compartment holds two large boxes and two side pockets hold accessories/tippet. Two Zero Sweep™ retractor stations, a Zero Sweep™ tool sheath and Zero Sweep™ foam fly patch and a cord tippet holder round out this stream-assault pack. At only $69.95, this pack is perfect for those short outings along your favorite stream for a few hours on the water.
The runoff is “ebbing & flowing” right now, so be sure to watch our fishing reports and social media for updates. This is a great time of year to get geared up for the new season as well, so stop in our Bozeman fly shop and check it all out.
