Proper Fish Handling

Handling a fish properly makes for a better photo and reduces stress on the fish. Rinsing your hands in the river before touching the fish is a good idea. It is important to hold the fish over the water or your net, so that if the fish is dropped it won’t hit the boat or ground below. Minimize the time in which the fish is out of water by leaving the net in the river until you are ready for the picture. Place both hands behind the fish so that your hands aren’t blocking the shot. Never squeeze the fish too hard or place your fingers into the gills. Carefully place the fish in water until it is ready to swim on its own.
