Sage Accel | Personal Review
As a mid-fast action rod the Sage Accel is a very impressive rod. I tried casting the Accel when we first got them in at The Shop a few months ago and I really liked it. I especially liked how light weight it was and felt casting. It was a completely new experience casting the Accel compared to many others mid to high end fly rods that I have tried casting but especially compared to the low end rod I was using (I am not even going to tell you). My mind was blown and I was sold on it. Now I just needed to save my pennies so that I could upgrade to this awesome rod. Well, fortunately yours truly just had a birthday and my sweetheart got me this very rod that I wanted. So, I am now the proud new owner of a Sage Accel and I couldn’t be more excited. I couldn’t wait to get out on the water and really test it out.
It not only proves to be one of the best rods I have ever fished with but I was beyond impressed with the ease of casting and mending with this lightweight faster action rod. I was a little worried about the transition because truth be told I have only owned lower end, stiffer rods. Most times when I cast a fast action rod I struggle with the flex of it and utilizing the power of the rod to throw the fly rather than my cast. I will say I have improved immensely tightening up my casting loop but that has been a challenge for me especially with flex tip fast action rods. It’s not a challenge with the Accel. My casting has improved, I am much more precise where my fly lands, and I can cast another 5-10 feet further. I would highly recommend the Accel to all levels of anglers. Visit us at the Fly Shop and try casting an Accel, or any other high quality rods that we carry.
This is the first fish I caught on my new Sage Accel, a great start to the relationship.
