Salmonflies?
It’s that time of year again when we all waste way too much money on gas trying to chase down a bug. Sometimes the stars align and you hit it just right and have a great day throwing massive dry flies to rising trout, usually it’s not quite that great, and we’re either a little too early or too late but that doesn’t stop us from trying. If you are trying to find some salmonflies right now they are going strong over on the Big Hole. Jerry Creek to Melrose seems to be where the bulk of the hatch is for now, and should continue to work its way up river. The bugs have been out over there for almost two weeks now which means we should start seeing some soon on the Upper Madison. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to try throwing some chubbies around the lower section of the river near Ennis right now, but we’ll let you know when stuff starts poppin’ off!
