Snowpack Update 2/28/15

Winter has returned to Southwest Montana – for now. Things are still a little unsettled, but it looks like mostly freezing temps and some new snow in the immediate forecast. We enjoyed the pseudo spring in early February, but its time get cold again and start collecting some more snow in the mountains for summer.

Right now we’re mostly looking good as far as mountain snowpack goes. It’s always very hard to tell how the summer will pan out, but right now we’re looking good. Every major watershed in the Bozeman area is at or above average. The next few months are very important for the mountain snowpack. How much snow will we get? Will it be a wet spring? How quickly will it warm up? All these unknowns add up to how the summer plays out. No guarantees, but as of right now things are looking like a typical late May early June runoff.

Conditions change quickly here in Southwest Montana, so keep checking back and we’ll keep you ahead of the curve.
