Springtime is here along with some of the best fishing of the year here in Southwest Montana. It is one of my favorite times to be fishing and guiding as the rivers aren’t as busy as during summer. Trout are healthy with good water temperatures and plenty of food available. Blue Winged Olive hatches have begun, and it won’t be long before the larger March Brown Mayflies and Mothers Day Caddis hatches start to appear. Snowpack has been holding up ok with most river basins running about 10 to 20 percent below average. It’s still hard to predict what this summer will bring until we see what kind of wet season we have over the next three months. If it does get hot this summer then we’ll be taking trip out at sunrise when the fishing is best. Give us a call or stop by the shop if you happen to be in Bozeman this spring. We can take you out for a guided fishing trip, or just let you know what’s working best at the time.
