When To Watch Out For Redds In the rivers around Bozeman, Montana female...

Fish identification can be difficult and take some time to learn. The two most difficult trout species to tell apart are going to be our Montana native cutthroats. Cutthroat can be distinguished from other trout mainly by their large red slashes on either side of their lower jaw. The Yellowstone Cutthroat trout and the Westslope Cutthroat trout look very similar and have overlapping ranges specifically in the Bozeman area. Being able to correctly identify fish species is a great skill...

I’ve now been in the fly-fishing retail industry for 19 years as the owner and managing partner of Fins & Feathers of Bozeman. Sure you could play Frogger, but it’s nice to casually cross the street while a semi is at a full stop. To continue the mediocre analogy, it sure is nice to throw a bushy dry fly around instead of dredging the bottom of the river with an indicator, split shot and a...

Some of the most fly reels I have ever seen made it into our Bozeman fly shop this last week. The Abel SDF fly reel is not only exceptionally machined and loaded with features, but add a hand finished Deyoung trout paint job and your are left with a stunning reel. Even photos of these pieces of art do not do them justice. Stop by the shop to get a good look...
