Tuesday’s Tip - Lubricate Your Knot

If you break off a fly and the end of your fly line comes back in a curlicue, your knot slipped and failed instead of reaching its maximum breaking strength. Often times this is caused by not lubricating the knot. Never attempt to tighten your knots up dry. They won’t seat correctly and will slip before reaching their maximum breaking strength. Make the knot by tightening most of the way, and then lubricate the knot with saliva or water before tightening it the rest of the way. That will help the knot seat correctly and you should now have maximum strength on your knot.
