Upper Madison Update!

After holding back water from Hebgen Dam all spring they are now releasing a good amount of water into the river. Flows have been increased from around 600 cfs to 1800 cfs at the Kirby Ranch gauge station. This is keeping the water temperatures from getting too high and will hopefully make for continued good fishing on the Upper Madison throughout summer. Float fishing is a great way to fish at the current flows, and fish seem to be happier with the cooler water. Wade fisherman can work their way up the bank looking for side pockets and boulders to cast to. Wading is tougher now with faster water and slippery rocks. Fish are also a little less spooky about boats with more water in the river creating plenty of hiding spaces where fish can feel comfortable.
