Where are the Caddis?
50 degrees. 50 degrees Fahrenheit seems to be the magical temperature when the Mother’s Day caddis hatch finally begins. We have been flirting with this number in many rivers around Bozeman for some time now and today the Yellowstone crossed that line. We have also heard a few vague reports that these insects have already started to appear in both the Stone and the Madison. Now is the time to stock up on your favorite Mother’s Day caddis patterns so you are prepared for the blanket hatches that will have hungry trout crushing bugs on the water’s surface. This scenario should be reality in no time. I’m willing to guess by Tuesday the Yellowstone will have a fishable caddis hatch.
