YNP Fly Fishing Reports
YNP Report 7/28/2021
Current Conditions
Beginning Saturday, July 24th there will be a park-wide fishing restriction on all rivers and streams. Fishing will be prohibited from 2pm to sunrise the following day. Lakes will remain open to fishing all day. These fishing restrictions have been implemented in response to low river flows and high water temps. The restrictions are meant to reduce stress and therefore fish mortality during the warmest and most stressful times of the day. There are several other river/lake specific fishing closures, check here for more info: https://www.nps.gov/yell/plany...
The park is fishing well right now. Terrestrial season is upon us and hoppers should be flying near the banks of most of the streams. Tie on a hopper dropper for increased action. Other patterns like ants and beetles will also be effective as fish search for stable sources of food. Tricos and mayfly emergers will be effective in the morning, especially when targeting rising fish. Also, consider fishing at a lake in the park, to both escape the crowds and target cooler water. Use attractor dries or leaches to find fish.
Remember to pinch barbs and no lead in Yellowstone Nation Park.
The Park is closed to fishing for the season. Get out there next year!
