YNP Report 8/14/2021

    Current Conditions

Beginning Saturday, July 24th there will be a park-wide fishing restriction on all rivers and streams. Fishing will be prohibited from 2pm to sunrise the following day. Lakes will remain open to fishing all day. These fishing restrictions have been implemented in response to low river flows and high water temps. The restrictions are meant to reduce stress and therefore fish mortality during the warmest and most stressful times of the day. There are several other river/lake specific fishing closures, check here for more info: https://www.nps.gov/yell/plany...

Some good fishing can be found in Yellowstone National Park at the moment. The park is in full Hoot Owl at the moment on every stream, so head out early to escape the heat and the crowds. Terrestrial season is in full swing so look to pick up fish on hopper-dropper rigs. Ants and beetles will also be effective to place near the banks. Head for the cool water up high, lakes are a good option this time of year and it also allows you to fish all day as well. Leeches will be an effective pattern to use in the lakes, either under an indicator or stripping. Mayflies will be the dominant hatches at the moment. Have some Tricos on hand to target rising fish.

Remember to pinch barbs and no lead in Yellowstone Nation Park.

The Park is closed to fishing for the season. Get out there next year!

Remember to pinch barbs and no lead in Yellowstone National Park.
