Back to Abel Fly Reels
The VAYA series debuts an all-new technical look and feel paired with outstanding performance. The partially-ported VAYA frame offers the unique combination of minimized weight, incredible rigidity, and just enough surface area to highlight Abel’s hand-anodized finishes. The frame interior also features varying sets of CNC-milled fly patterns, relevant to each size of reel.
The large-arbor spool features a precision-balanced, dual-pawl drag engagement design that eliminates the need for a counterweight. The spool’s mechanical incoming click compliments the audible, smooth feel of the outgoing drag. The carbon / stainless multi-disk drag system produces substantial resistance, while providing a wide range of adjustability for delicate tippet.

Abel VAYA Specifications and Backing Capacities
Made In America
Abel is American, very American. But what does that mean?
We produce 100% of our products in the United States by choice. No exceptions. The simple reason is quality. At Abel, we craft every product from start to finish in house.
Our products are manufactured only from the finest grades of aluminum, stainless steel and other exotic materials on precision Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machinery used for aerospace and medical devices. We hold the closest tolerances in the industry, resulting in products that last a lifetime.
Differentiated by Quality
To produce our high quality products, we precision machine 100% of our parts in-house. We used advanced, proprietary machining processes and finishing methods. The entire production line, from the inception of a new product, through to its design, prototyping, testing, iterating and all the way to the final product, happens in our R&D lab. This commitment to excellence ensures that we have a competitive, high-performance edge over our competition.
Abel recommends that you throughly rinse products in running, lukewarm freshwater after each day of use. After rinsing, take a toothbrush to the 90-degree angles (i.e. foot, counterweight, handle, etc). It’s also a good idea to spray it with WD-40, and wipe it clean with a paper towel. WD-40 will not harm components or your flyline, backing, or mono. For cork drag reels, it is not necessary to lubricate the cork on the drag plate; this only needs to be done if it does not feel just as smooth as a brand new reel.
