Whiting Farms is the leading producer of premium genetic hackle for the fly tyer. The feather charatceristics include long, supple feathers and dense barbs which makes for easier tying and better final results. Saddle feathers are lng enough to allow a few flies to be tied with each feather.The grading system has to do with the numbers of feathers per pelt, so the higher the grade...the more feathers. . The 1/2 Sadde is just what it sounds like...a full saddle cut in 1/2. These are good choices for the serious fly tyer that wants to be able to tie a lot of flies in a few size ranges...generally in the #12-16 range
